Toei Animation announces English dub release dates for One Piece Film: Red on digital platforms

On March 16, Toei Animation’s official Twitter account announced that One Piece Film: Red would be digitally released in English dub only later in the month. The regions where the movie would be available include North America, New Zealand, and Australia. However, there were no additional details provided in the tweet about the availability of the movie in other regions.

The digital release of One Piece Film: Red is scheduled for March 28, and it will most likely be available for purchase first before being made available for streaming. Although it is purely speculative at the moment, Toei Animation advised fans to stay tuned for more information in their tweet.

The news of the digital release in English dub only is good news for fans who have been eagerly awaiting international home releases of One Piece Film: Red. However, this announcement has sparked speculation about when the movie will be available to stream on various platforms such as Crunchyroll and Funimation.

It is assumed that the March release of the movie will be a purchasable digital version rather than its debut on streaming services. If this is true, the streaming service release will likely be sometime in the final quarter of 2023 or early 2024.

One of the biggest questions for the home release of the movie is whether there will be physical releases, especially given the popularity of the limited edition Japanese DVD sets that were released earlier this year. Fans who are interested in owning such an edition of the movie have been pressing Toei for this information, but there has been no response from the company as of yet.

One Piece Film: Red was first released in Japan in August 2022, where it enjoyed a successful run. The movie cemented its place in the top ten highest-grossing anime films of all time and the top ten highest-grossing films in general of all time for Japanese theaters. By the time it left theaters in January 2023, it had grossed over 19.7 billion yen at Japanese box offices.

The film follows the Straw Hats as they attend a concert by singer Uta, who is a childhood friend of Luffy. However, things take a turn for the worse when Uta discovers that Luffy is a pirate. As her true intentions are slowly revealed, Luffy is forced to fight his former friend, with some help from an old mentor.
