Duffer Brothers developing live-action Death Note TV show

Netflix has teamed up with the Duffer Brothers, creators of the hit series “Stranger Things,” for a new deal that includes the development of a live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series “Death Note.” The series follows the story of Light Yagami, a young man who discovers a mysterious notebook that has the power to kill anyone whose name is written inside it. Light begins to use the notebook to kill criminals in an effort to create a better world, but he soon finds himself pursued by a reclusive detective known only as L.

“Death Note” has been adapted into multiple formats over the years, including a 2006-2007 anime series, a novel, video games, four live-action Japanese films, and two Japanese series. In 2017, an American film adaptation of “Death Note” was released on Netflix, but it was met with criticism for its casting of white actors in place of Japanese characters.

The Duffer Brothers’ new adaptation of “Death Note” will be a live-action series that is unrelated to the 2017 film. However, details about the cast, crew, and plot are yet to be officially announced. It will be interesting to see how the Duffer Brothers approach the project, especially given the controversy surrounding the previous film adaptation.

The Duffer Brothers have formed a new partnership with Netflix called Upside Down Pictures, which will produce several new titles for the streaming service. With their track record of creating hit shows, such as “Stranger Things,” fans of “Death Note” can expect an exciting new adaptation of the popular manga series.
