Hunter x Hunter’s next volume is complete

Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter, has all but confirmed that the acclaimed manga’s extended hiatus is nearly over. On Twitter, Togashi announced that work on the long-awaited next volume of Hunter x Hunter is complete except for one double-page spread. He wrote (translated from Japanese), “The book work is complete except for one double-page spread.”

Hunter x Hunter is written and illustrated by Togashi, who is also known as the creator of YuYu Hakusho. The manga has been serialized in Japanese publisher Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump since 1998. Meanwhile, Viz Media publishes the manga in Shonen Jump, its English-language equivalent of Shueisha’s magazine. To date, 36 collected volumes of Hunter x Hunter have been released in both Japanese and English. However, since 2006, the manga has been known to go on lengthy hiatuses and is currently on its longest one yet.

Shueisha published the first collected volume of Hunter x Hunter in June 1998 and Viz published its English-language version of the volume in April 2005. Most recently, Hunter x Hunter Volume 36 – consisting of Chapters 371-380 – was released in Japanese in October 2018 and in English in August 2019. Chapters 381-390 were serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from September 2018 to November 2018 but have yet to be collected. No additional chapters of Hunter x Hunter have been released since then, although Togashi has kept readers updated since creating a Twitter account earlier this year.
