Black Clover movie to have two special novels released

Black Clover fans have reason to be excited as the anime is set to make a comeback this summer with its first anime film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. The film has piqued fans’ interest, and an update about the film’s novelization has added to their anticipation.

It has been revealed that Black Clover will release not one but two different novels in Japan on June 9th, just ahead of the film’s release. The first novel, a novelization by Johnny Onda, who wrote the screenplay for the movie, will be released by J Book. The novel’s blurb reads, “This is a must-read book for those who want to learn more about the movie before watching it or for those who want to enjoy it more deeply after watching it.” The second novel, which will be a more traditional adaptation of the movie’s story, will come from Bunko Mirai, with author Kuma Ataro penning the book.

Both books feature artwork linked to Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, with J Book adaptation having four illustrations while the Bunko Mirai adaptation has two. Fans who purchase tickets to the Black Clover movie in Japan will also receive a special manga volume, titled Volume 23.5, which contains behind-the-scenes details about the movie, including character sheets, Yūki Tabata’s rough sketches of the four Wizard Kings, a question and answer section with Tabata about the movie, a 20-page tie-in story written by Johnny Onda, and comments from the voice actors, TREASURE, and production team about the movie and notable scenes.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King is set to release on June 16th and will be available globally on Netflix. The movie’s synopsis reveals that the protagonists, Asta and Yuno, are faced with the resurrected Conrad Leto, Julius Novachrono’s predecessor Wizard King, who aims to use the “Imperial Sword” to resurrect the three most feared Wizard Kings in history and take over the Clover Kingdom. The plot sets up an all-out war between the boy who dreams of becoming the Wizard King and the Wizard King from the past.
