Will there be a third season of Assassination Classroom?

Assassination Classroom is a popular manga series that was adapted into an anime by animation studio Lerche. The anime received nearly 50 episodes across two seasons and has garnered a massive fan following. However, despite its success, there has been no continuation of the series since the second season ended in 2016. This has left many fans wondering if there will ever be a third season.

The premise of Assassination Classroom is an unusual and original one. The series takes place after an octopus-like alien destroys most of the moon and threatens to do the same to the whole planet in a year’s time. But before then, he mysteriously decides to take on the role of a high school teacher, as his students compete to assassinate him. With the entire world at stake, the Japanese government has offered a prize of $100 million to the student who successfully takes him out.

Despite their efforts, the students come up against some hurdles in their plans to assassinate their alien teacher, who they have dubbed “Koro-sensei”. He possesses a multitude of powers including regeneration and cloning, making him incredibly difficult to kill. Likewise, the students themselves grow to like Koro-sensei, as he helps them with their studies and personal problems. Even with other assassins trying to take Koro out, the threat to the Earth still exists for as long as he remains a teacher.

Many fans of the series are eager to see a third season, given the show’s popularity and the open-ended nature of the story. However, it appears highly unlikely that there will be a third season. This is because season two covered the most important parts of the manga, and the anime simply adapted the manga’s own ending. The manga ended a few months before the anime’s final episode aired, allowing the anime to take out the excess and focus on the essential parts of the story. The first season of the anime adapted roughly half of the manga’s story, while the second season succinctly wrapped up the dangling narrative threads.

As a result, the Assassination Classroom anime has already told a complete story, and there doesn’t need to be a follow-up season. While fans may be disappointed that there won’t be any more episodes of the anime, they can take solace in the fact that the show provided a satisfying conclusion to the story.
