Why does Akaza hate Doma in Demon Slayer Season 3?

The latest season of the popular anime series, Demon Slayer, has not failed to live up to fans’ expectations. The first episode of season 3, titled the Swordsmith Village Arc, introduced fans to a whole new level of intrigue and conflict within the world of Upper-Rank Demons. The episode took viewers to the Infinity Castle, where the Upper-Rank Demons and their leader, Muzan Kibutsuji, met to discuss their plans.

During the meeting, fans were introduced to Doma and Akaza, two Upper-Rank Demons with a deep-seated animosity towards each other. While it was easy to assume that all Demons hated humans, it was a surprise to see that they also harbored grudges against each other. Fans were left wondering why Akaza hates Doma and even seems to have a grudge against Kokushibo as well.

The reason behind Akaza’s hatred for Doma lies in a deep psychological trauma that stems from a past incident where he fell in love with a girl named Koyuki. Hakuji, as he was known back then, was tasked with taking care of Koyuki and helping her regain her health. As the two spent more time together, they grew closer and eventually fell in love. Koyuki’s confession of love and proposal to Hakuji determined him to become stronger and protect her for the rest of her life.

However, tragedy struck when Koyuki and her father were poisoned and killed by a rival dojo leader. The shock and grief of losing the love of his life caused Hakuji to go on a killing spree, taking revenge on 67 members of the rival dojo. This event left a deep scar on Hakuji’s psyche, and when he was turned into a Demon by Muzan, he carried this trauma with him as Akaza.

His vow to protect and cherish Koyuki for the rest of his life is what motivates him to spare women, as he sees them as symbols of hope and love, much like Koyuki was to him. This psychological trauma is also the reason why Akaza refuses to follow Muzan’s order to kill Tanjiro and his friends, as he sees the same kind of determination and love for their comrades in them that he had for Koyuki.

Furthermore, fans also witnessed the power struggle between Akaza and Doma. Despite Doma becoming a Demon after Akaza, he managed to secure the Upper Two spot against Akaza, who is currently Upper Three. This power struggle is another significant reason why Akaza harbors deep-seated animosity towards Doma.

In the meeting between the Upper-Rank Demons, Doma expresses his desire to join forces with Gyokko and Hantengu. However, Akaza appears and cuts Doma’s head in half as a reminder of Muzan’s orders. This act of defiance leads Kokushibo, one of the Twelve Kizuki, to punish Akaza by severing his hand and warns him not to disrupt the hierarchy. Despite his confident demeanor, Akaza declines Kokushibo’s challenge to settle any grudges through battle, knowing he wouldn’t stand a chance against Kokushibo and Doma.

In conclusion, the first episode of Demon Slayer season 3 introduces viewers to a whole new level of intrigue and conflict within the world of Upper-Rank Demons. Fans are left with a deep understanding of Akaza’s hatred towards Doma and the psychological trauma that motivates him to spare women. The power struggle between Akaza and Doma is also a significant factor contributing to their animosity towards each other.
