Black Clover movie’s release date delayed

Black Clover fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Sword of the Wizard King movie since its announcement last year. The movie is based on the popular manga series, which is written by Yuki Tabata and published by Shueisha. Studio Pierrot, known for producing popular anime like Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul, and Ghost Stories, is behind the anime adaptation of Black Clover.

Initially set to release on March 31, 2023, the movie’s release has been delayed due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. The official Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King website announced that the premiere of the highly anticipated movie has been pushed back by three months, with the new anticipated release date being June 16, 2023. Those who have already purchased advanced tickets will be able to use them for the postponed screenings.

The production committee behind the project apologized for the delay and stated that the safety of their staff is their top priority. The delay is not the first time that an anime project has been hit by scheduling changes due to the pandemic, with other titles like Masamune-Kun’s Revenge, Uncle From Another World, and NieR Automata also announcing schedule changes.

The Sword of the Wizard King movie will see the return of staff members from the Black Clover television anime. Ayataka Anemura, known for titles like Devilman: Crybaby and D.Gray-Man Hallow, will direct the film, with Itsuko Takeda designing the characters and Minako Seki composing the music. The original manga creator, Yuki Tabata, is serving as the movie’s chief supervisor and original character designer.

Screenings of the film will give out a bonus book called “Volume 23.5” to ticketholders, which will only be available for the first week of the film’s release and limited in number. The book will feature character designs of the film’s original characters that Yuki Tabata designed, a short novel by film writer Johnny Onda, and an interview with voice actors. The movie will also feature Toshihiko Seki as Konrad Leto, a former Wizard King, actress and model Marie Iitoyo as the original character Milly Maxwell, and Fumiya Takahashi as Jester Galandros, a mysterious wizard who was associated with the previous wizard king.
