“Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King” anime film delayed to June 16 due to COVID-19

The highly anticipated anime film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King (Black Clover: Mahо̄tei no Ken), has been delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The film, which was originally scheduled to open on March 31, will now be released on June 16, as announced on the official website of the movie. The delay is due to the spread of the virus, which has affected the production of the film. However, Netflix has confirmed that the movie will debut on the service on the same day as the theatrical release.

The film’s chief supervisor and original character designer, Yūki Tabata, who is also the creator of the original manga, is expected to bring his unique creative vision to the project. Staff members from the television anime are returning for the film, including Ayataka Tanemura, who will direct the movie. Itsuko Takeda will be designing the characters, and Minako Seki will be composing the music.

In addition, ticketholders who attend screenings of the movie will receive a bonus book called “Volume 23.5.” This book includes character designs of the film’s original characters that Yūki Tabata designed, a short novel by film writer Johnny Onda, and an interview with voice actors. However, the book will only be available as a bonus during the first week of the film’s release, and it will be limited in number.

The film also features an impressive voice cast, with Toshihiko Seki playing Konrad Leto, a former Wizard King. Marie Iitoyo will voice the original character Milly Maxwell, while Fumiya Takahashi will play Jester Galandros, a mysterious wizard associated with the previous wizard king. Miyuki Sawashiro will play Princia, and Houchu Ohtsuka will play Edward. Additionally, the film’s theme song, “Here I Stand,” will be performed by the popular music group Treasure.

Black Clover, the anime adaptation of Yūki Tabata’s manga, premiered in Japan in October 2017. The show originally had 51 episodes but continued into a new season with episode 52 in October 2018, and continued on again into a new season in October 2019. The show went on hiatus in April 2020 due to COVID-19 and resumed in July 2020 with episode 133, airing its 170th and final episode in March 2021. The anime was streamed by Crunchyroll in Japanese with English subtitles, while Funimation streamed the show’s English dub. The anime also debuted on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block in December 2017.

Black Clover has been a popular manga and anime series since its launch in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015. Viz Media is publishing the manga digitally and in print, and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service is also publishing the manga digitally. The manga has had over 15 million copies in circulation worldwide as of May 2021, and the anime has gained a dedicated following for its action-packed storyline and colorful characters.
