McInnis’ Black Clover performance draws heavily from the Japanese original

“Black Clover” is a manga created by Yūki Tabata in February 2015. It has since become a highly popular title, leading to an anime adaptation that premiered in 2017. The anime has closely followed the manga’s storyline, bringing to life the fan-favorite characters in a way that print simply can’t. Despite the vastly different mediums, the anime has done an excellent job of following the manga’s story as closely as possible.

The “Black Clover” anime centers around Asta, a boy who has been dealt a bad hand in life as he has no magical powers in a world where they are the norm. Despite this, Asta finds other means of becoming a powerful entity and coming closer to his ultimate goal of taking the title of Wizard King. Along the way, he encounters numerous other friends, foes, and people who fall somewhere in between.

One such character is Finral Roulacase, a member of the Black Bulls. Finral gets plenty of time to shine on “Black Clover,” allowing voice actor Brandon McInnis, who is also known for his work on “My Hero Academia,” the chance to do what he does best. However, McInnis’ portrayal of Finral is not entirely original. It is heavily influenced by the character’s original Japanese voice actor, Jun Fukuyama.

Overall, “Black Clover” has become a beloved franchise with a dedicated fanbase that eagerly anticipates each new release. The anime is soon to be followed by a movie called “Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King,” which is sure to excite fans of the franchise even further.
