New manga from Fullmetal Alchemist creator now available in English

Square-Enix has announced that Hiromu Arakawa, the creator of the widely popular manga and anime series Fullmetal Alchemist, has a new manga series called Yomi no Tsugai, which will be released in English as Daemons of the Shadow Realm. The English paperback release is set for spring 2023, and it will be officially available in English on July 25, 2022.

The series began serialization in Square-Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2021, and it has quickly garnered attention from fans of Arakawa’s previous works. Daemons of the Shadow Realm follows the story of twins Asa and Yuru, a boy and a girl who were born just before and after dawn, as they encounter a prophecy that poses a grave threat to their village and possibly the world. The first chapter already reveals a major twist on the seemingly historical setting, where the twins are placed on opposite sides of a conflict.

Despite sharing some major themes with Fullmetal Alchemist, such as family and loyalty, Daemons of the Shadow Realm has managed to distinguish itself with its mystical story and Asian setting. The series is sure to attract fans of Arakawa’s previous works and new readers alike, and its English release will undoubtedly contribute to its growing popularity in the Western market.
