When is ‘Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King’ coming out?

Black Clover is an anime series that has garnered a dedicated following among American fans since Netflix acquired the rights to the English dub in 2017. Produced at Studio Pierrot, the series is based on the long-running manga of the same name, which has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 2015. It tells the story of Asta, a young orphan who is born without magical powers in a world where magic is the norm. Despite being an outcast, Asta sets his sights on becoming the Wizard King, the most powerful magician in the land.

Last year, a spin-off movie titled Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King was announced, and Anime News Network has reported that it will premiere on March 31, 2022. The film will be released simultaneously in Japanese theaters and on Netflix. To mark the occasion, the official trailer for the film has been released.

The Black Clover film series centers around Asta and his best friend Yuno, an orphan boy who possesses maximum magical ability. They compete against each other to become the world’s greatest Wizard King and win the love of Sister Lily. In the anime series, by the end of its 170th episode, Asta was training to defeat the blue-eyed Nacht Faust and his Shadow Magic.

Produced at Studio Pierrot, the film was made by the same creative team that produced the anime series. This includes director Tatsuya Yosishara and manga creator Yuki Tabata. The series originally aired in Japan from 2017 to 2021, with production being paused during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally streamed on Crunchyroll in Japanese and on Funimation in the English dub. It later debuted on American television as part of Adult Swim’s Toonami animation block.
