“Haikyu!!” to release 2 compilation films in fall 2017

Haikyu!!, a popular anime series based on the manga by Haruichi Furudate, is getting not one, but two theatrical compilation movies set to release in Japan in the fall season of 2017. The two movies, Haikyu!! Talent and Sense and Haikyu!! Concept Battle, will recap the competitions with Aoba Johsai High and Shiratorizawa High, respectively. While there are no further details available about the productions, it has been announced that preview videos for each film will be shown at the TOHO Animation booth at AnimeJapan 2017.

The Haikyu!! manga is serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine, and its English language version is published by Viz Media. The anime adaptation is directed by Susumu Mitsunaka and animated by Production I.G. The story follows Shoyo Hinata, a high school student who dreams of becoming a legendary volleyball player, despite his small stature. In his last year of middle school, he creates a volleyball team, but is defeated by Tobio Kageyama’s team in their first tournament. Determined to surpass Kageyama, Hinata joins the volleyball team in high school, only to find that Kageyama has joined the same team. The series revolves around their growth as volleyball players and as individuals.
