Actor who played Kenpachi in Bleach anime criticizes studio for ignoring fans

Voice actor David Lodge, who played the role of Kenpachi Zaraki in the English dub of the popular anime series Bleach, has expressed his disappointment with VIZ Media for ignoring the fans’ calls for his return. Lodge had earlier relinquished the role due to pay disputes with VIZ Media. However, after the premiere of the anime’s latest season, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, many fans expressed their desire for Lodge to reprise his role as Kenpachi, which prompted the voice actor to make an offer to VIZ Media to return to the series, despite the low pay.

In a social media post, Lodge criticized the studio for not listening to the fans’ requests and stated that he was willing to return to make Bleach fans happy. He also claimed to have millions of fans despite not being active on social media. The voice actor sent an ultimatum to VIZ Media, saying that he would move on to other projects if the studio did not accept his offer to return.

Bleach fans have been vocal about their love for Kenpachi Zaraki, who was recently ranked as one of the most beloved characters in the series in VIZ Media’s latest Bleach popularity poll. Kenpachi, who is the captain of the Eleventh Division in the Soul Society, ranked fourth on the overall list, behind Rukia Kuchiki, Ichigo Kurosaki, and Kisuke Urahara. Bleach’s protagonist Ichigo took second place, just below Rukia, who won the poll.

Patrick Seitz, who also voiced Isshin Kurosaki in the anime series, took over as the English voice of Kenpachi after Lodge’s departure. Seitz was expected to reprise the role in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, but many fans were still hoping for Lodge’s return.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War is exclusively available to stream on Hulu in the United States, while international fans can watch the series on Netflix and Disney+. The anime adaptation of the popular manga series by Tite Kubo has been widely successful, and the return of Lodge as Kenpachi would undoubtedly have delighted many of the show’s devoted fans.
