Crunchyroll to drop new episodes of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc

Aniplex of America and streaming service Crunchyroll have announced that they will begin simulcast streams of the highly-anticipated anime series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” from April 9th. The service will be available in North America, South America, and Europe, and Crunchyroll will exclusively simulcast new episodes every week.

The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” franchise has been a huge success since it first premiered as a TV anime series in April 2019. It tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy whose family is killed by demons. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps to save his younger sister Nezuko, who is transformed into a demon. The underlying manga series, published under Shueisha’s Jump Comics operation, has sold over 150 million copies and gained a massive following worldwide. The animation production is by Ufotable.

The previous installment of the anime, the “Entertainment District Arc”, aired in 2021-2022 and was followed by the release of the feature film “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” in October 2020. The film was a huge hit in multiple territories and grossed more than $30 million in Japan and $10 million in North America. In February 2023, the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba -To the Swordsmith Village” film began worldwide theatrical screenings in 95 countries and regions.

The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” marks a new chapter in the franchise, with the story shifting to a new location where Tanjiro reunites with two Hashira, members of the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking swordsmen. As always, the shadows of demons are lurking near, and a new battle begins for Tanjiro and his comrades.

The voice cast for the new series includes Hanae Natsuki as Kamado Tanjiro, Kito Akari as Kamado Nezuko, Shimono Hiro as Agatsuma Zenitsu, Matsuoka Yoshitsugu as Hashibira Inosuke, Kawanishi Kengo as Tokito Muichiro, Hanazawa Kana as Kanroji Mitsuri, Okamoto Nobuhiko as Genya, Furukawa Toshio as Hantengu, and Toriumi Kousuke as Gyokko.

The release of the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc” comes in a big month for Japanese anime in North America, with the upcoming release of the film “Suzume”, directed by Shinkai Makoto, which has already become a box office hit in Japan and is currently the number one film in both China and South Korea. It is worth noting that only one Japanese animation has ever scored more than $50 million in North American theaters.
