Should Dragon Ball Super ignore DBZ’s epilogue?

Dragon Ball Z’s epilogue and the events depicted in Dragon Ball Super. The decision to set Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods in the timeskip between the “Majin Buu” arc and its epilogue implied that not much of note happened in the 10-year aftermath of the arc. However, with the introduction of Super and its events set in the same 10-year timeskip, Dragon Ball Z’s epilogue became increasingly contradicted.

The article points out the discrepancies between the two series, such as the fact that the 10-year gap in time has not been one of peace in Super, with Earth being imperiled on multiple occasions at a far higher frequency than either Dragon Ball or Z. Additionally, there are inconsistencies with the absence of Beerus and Whis, who are present for most of the crew’s gatherings throughout Super, and the fact that Gohan and Piccolo refuse to take part in the tournament, despite both receiving massive power-ups a mere year prior in Super Hero.

While it seems that Super will outright ignore Z’s epilogue, the article suggests that the series has been quietly building up Uub again as of late, clearly setting up Goku’s eventual meeting with him. The article proposes that Super should retell Z’s epilogue to fit its new additions, acknowledging that the last 10 years have been a tumultuous time for Goku and friends and incorporating those developments into his decision to train Uub.

Ultimately, the article argues that Super deserves to stand on its own, without undermining its own unique developments, and should not feel the need to contort itself to fit another series’ ending. It suggests that the idea of outright retconning the original manga may be controversial among fans, but it wouldn’t be the first time Super has depicted alternate versions of separate events.
