Black Clover sets up a tragic fight that could potentially be the most devastating in the series

The manga series Black Clover by Yuki Tabata has been building up to what could be one of its most heart-wrenching moments yet. In the early chapters of the story, there are two separate instances that hint at the possibility of Yami, the captain of the Black Bulls, being forced to fight his sister Ichika.

The first hint comes from an earlier wound that Yami sustained, which could potentially culminate in a confrontation with Ichika. This would be an especially tragic moment in the story considering the recent revelations that Ichika has learned about her brother. In chapter 347, she discovers that Yami was innocent of slaughtering their entire family, and that she was the actual culprit. After ingesting a mind-altering pill given to her by her father, she mistakenly believed that Yami had killed their family to protect her from the truth. However, Yami left soon afterward, leaving Ichika with this misguided belief.

The second hint comes from a combination of events that suggest Yami may be transforming into a devil and could potentially be under the control of the villainous Lucius Zogratis. In an earlier chapter, Yami and William were forced to partake in a ritual that recreated a channel connecting the underworld with the realm of the living, known as the Tree of Qliphoth. Although they were saved, chapter 323 revealed that the structure of Yami’s body resembled that of the devil Liebe, who possesses Asta. This implies that Yami may be evolving into one of the devils in Black Clover.

Moreover, in chapter 333, it was revealed that the Wizard King Julius and Lucius Zogratis shared the same body, which suggests that Yami could potentially become a pawn of Zogratis. Given how hard Julius worked to ensure Yami joined the Magic Knights, there is a possibility that Lucius’ plan involved Julius becoming a part of Yami’s life so that Yami could serve him. Alternatively, it’s possible that Lucius’ will and determination somehow leaked through into Julius’ subconscious, even when Julius was in control, leading Julius to convince Yami to join the Magic Knights.

If these events come to fruition, Yami may be forced to attack his sister Ichika, just when she has learned that he is innocent. This would be a major setback for their reunion, especially since they haven’t seen each other since Yami fled to the Clover Kingdom. Despite Yami’s willingness to take the blame for their family’s demise and Ichika’s desire to make things right, if Yami is under the control of Lucius Zogratis, Black Clover won’t give the siblings the reconciliation they deserve.
