An English-language Naruto yaoi fanfiction has been adapted into a Japanese drama CD

Circle K Sunkus, a popular convenience store chain in Japan, is offering pre-orders for a yaoi drama CD titled “Yours for an Hour.” What sets this CD apart is its origins – it’s based on an English-language Naruto fanfiction called “Yours for an Hour” that was posted on FanFiction.net back in 2010 by Hic iacet Mori, who is credited as the original author. The fanfiction was known for pairing Naruto with Sasuke, and this CD version reworks the story to modern-day settings with new characters named Haru Hinomoto and Aki Tsukikage. However, it’s not hard to see the resemblance between the new characters and Naruto and Sasuke.

The story follows Haru, who has had a difficult life growing up in an orphanage, but remains determined and optimistic, throwing himself into his job as a handyman. Aki, on the other hand, is a successful businessman with an icy personality but a kind side he only shows to those he trusts. The two characters meet after Aki finds Haru’s flyer, and one hour with Haru is enough to change Aki’s life.

The drama CD features the voice actors behind Naruto and Sasuke, Junko Takeuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama, respectively. The CD comes with a fully translated English script and bonus materials, including chit-chat, greetings in English and Japanese, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and messages for the fans. It is the second part of a series of yaoi drama CDs that includes English translations. The first one, “It’s How You Blend,” is set in a coffee shop.

The CD will be available for purchase on March 7th for 2,000 yen, which happens to be SasuNaru Day in the Japanese Naruto fandom. Although it’s unusual for a fanfiction to be adapted into a commercial product, it’s not unprecedented – the popular romance novel and film “Fifty Shades of Grey” started out as Twilight fanfiction.
