My Hero Academia’s Deku voice actor was harassed by a Justin Bieber fan

Justin Briner, the English voice actor for Izuku Midoriya in the hit anime series My Hero Academia, recently found himself at the center of an online drama when a passionate fan of Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber accused him of not apologizing to Gomez for the alleged actions of his wife, Hailey Bieber. Briner shared a screenshot of a message from the fan, which criticized him for not defending and apologizing to Gomez, and urged him to “do better Justin.” While the fan acknowledged that an apology from Briner might not be something Gomez wants or needs, they insisted that he should apologize because his fans required it of him. The message ended with a disappointed statement: “You’re changing and not in a good way. You’re changing just like your wife.”

Unfortunately, the fan had directed their outrage at the wrong Justin. Justin Briner is a well-known voice actor in the anime community, with notable roles in series such as My Hero Academia, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, and Attack on Titan. Despite having the same first name and some of the same letters in their last names, Justin Briner is not Justin Bieber. Nevertheless, the situation sparked discussion online about the unfairness of holding someone responsible for the actions of their spouse, and the importance of checking one’s facts before directing anger towards someone.
